Projects

This is a short list of currently active projects of sphene.net

1. Inosit

Inosit is a Project Management and Ticket Management tool especially for agile development models. Many open source projects have shown that users can be a vital aspect of software development. To make it easier to correctly prioritize and include user feedback in the development process as well as providing the expected quality of support, professionalism and security it is essential that there is one tool to merge the functionality of a Project Management and CRM tool into one package.

1.1. Project Management

  • Plan your projects by defining milestones, dead lines and responsibilities of team members.
  • Aggregated reports of all tasks and tickets associated with your projects allow you to control and prioritize every aspect of your project.

1.2. Taskmangement

Tasks are specific responsibilities or duties within a project. Every task has one responsible team member, a given priority, time estimate and optionally a dead line. Tasks are organized in a hierarchical tree and can be easily created to produce small and manageable work units for each project member.

1.3. Ticketmanagement/CRM

Ticketmanagement is an important part of Inosit. It allows you to make customer support part of project management to get a better grasp of the problems and challenges within each project. In addition it allows the support team to automatically get all knowledge of the development tasks and insight into possible peculiarities or design decisions.

Tickets can be associated with customers either by an automatic filter based on email address or manually by the support team. Customers will get access to all their tickets to see the current status and assignment of the tickets, upload additional attachments, add comments or close them. It is also possible for customers to create tickets through a web form and assign meta properties - like affected installation, URL to reproduce the problem, etc.

1.4. Document Sharing

Every phase/task/ticket can have additional file attachments like word documents or spreadsheets. You can connect every document to a phase/task/ticket to provide more information to this topic. If a new version of a document is available, the old version can be archived so the new one replaces it.

2. Sphene Community Tools (SCT)

Sphene Community Tools is a collection of django applications which can be used to build community websites, news sites or blogs.

The main components of SCT are the django forum, wiki applications which are designed to be easy to integrate into existing projects and extensible to be adapted to almost any specific requirement.

2.1. Forum Application

The forum application is a full featured bulleting board and community forum. Forums can be grouped together in hierarchical categories with granular permissions for each of these. This allows users to create internal forums for only a selected number of people along side public forums as well as announcement forums where only privileged users can create new threads or posts.

As an example of the extensibility of the forum there are two simple yet powerful applications:

  • Link List: A very simple application which allows users to manage a list of links to websites and write comments. The forum templates and forms are customized to provide an input field for the website URL and show a thumbnail of the website.
  • Blog: This application provides a new view to better display the latest threads of a forum as news entries and a new url configuration to have a slug as identifier instead of an ID.

2.2. Wiki Application

The wiki can be used to either create a community-driven content website or as a straight forward approach to content management for smaller, agile websites.

3. GOIM 2

GOIM 2 (Gamers Own Instant Messenger) is a multi protocol instant messaging client. It is based on java and the eclipse rich client platform which makes it easily portable any platform (currently windows, linux and mac os x).

The main audience are currently gamers - GOIM 2 provides support for seeing which games friends are playing on which server and joining them with one click in the contact list.

Supported protocols include XMPP (Jabber) - the protocol of choice for GOIM, Xfire and Oscar (AIM and ICQ).

Since it is based on the eclipse rich client platform and makes heavy use of it's flexible plugin and extension framework it can be easily adapted to provide custom theming, custom functionality and additional protocols.
